The Public Works Department is responsible for the effective planning, design, construction and maintenance of all physical Village assets. Assets include Village roadways and traffic signals, parks, and the stormwater system. The Village partners with area agencies to provide quality water and sanitary sewer services. The department is led by the Director and is staffed by a foreman and two maintenance workers.

Potholes
Potholes in the pavement appear when a road surface becomes worn and has suffered the effects of weather and traffic. Due to the climate and the wear and tear on our roadway system, potholes sometimes cannot be prevented. To report a pothole, please click here or call (815) 877-5432.

Public Works Permits – Right-of-Way Construction & Erosion Control
Please click here to be directed to our permit portal to apply for a right-of-way construction or erosion control permit online. More information about Public Works Construction permits can be found on our Permits & Fees page.

Road Postings
As temperatures begin to rise following the winter, the Public Works Department posts signs on roadways that temporality restricts the use of heavy trucks on Village roads. Typically, the spring road posting period is 6 weeks in duration but will depend on weather and road conditions.

When determined, enforcement dates are posted to this webpage and on Village social media feeds.
